Venezuela denounces systematic imposition of sanctions during XIII Summit of the World Forum on Migration and Development

During her participation in the XIII Summit of the Global Forum on Migration and Development, the director of Consular Relations of the People’s Power Ministry for Foreign Relations, Eulalia Tabares, denounced the siege against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela through the imposition of coercive measures unilateral.

She briefly explained the impact of the “misnamed sanctions” in Venezuela and how these affected not only economically, but also socially, generating an atypical migration in the region later used for the economic interests of the “recieving countries.”

Likewise, she commented with concern on the treatment that Venezuelan migrants receive in the countries of the so-called Lima Group, which contradict its discourse of “humanitarian assistance” and that, on the contrary, exclude them with bureaucratic and xenophobic procedures, thus limiting their regularization within the country.

In this regard, she urged the States and international organizations of the Forum to consolidate efforts and achieve measures that are protective of the human rights of migrants, and avoid -as far as possible- all racist, xenophobic, discriminatory regulations that may exist in the world against migration.

During her speech at the table The future of the Forum and the Construction of a better world + Seedstarts of the OIE, the director Tabares highlighted the importance of the Telematics Summit as a space for inclusion and political agreement on migration matters, thus urging to analyze the structural causes of migration in the world, and bridging the differences between migrants and refugees.

At the end of her speech, the Director of Consular Relations presented the work of the Venezuelan State in terms of the protection and rights of migrants and refugees in the national territory, which have guaranteed the right to education, free health care and a dignified work regardless their nationality or immigration status.
