Venezuela expresses condolences to Nicaragua for the sensitive death of Edén Pastora Gómez

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan People and Government, expresses his deepest condolences to the People and Government of Nicaragua, and to all the Sandinista militancy, for the heartfelt death of his friend and comrade Edén Pastora Gómez, the historic “Comandante Cero” (Commander Zero), a testimony of anti-imperialism, loyalty, reconciliation and of the supreme sacrifice for the defense of the Homeland and the Revolution. In the collective memory of the peoples that fight for their freedom, there will remain the meaningful contribution of Commander Edén Pastora, in the occupation of the National Palace, that August 22, 1978, which allowed the Sandinista Front the liberation of important revolutionary cadres, and the definitive progress of their fight against the Somoza dictatorship. The occupation of the Palace is, undoubtedly, a historical reference, a symbol of resistance and victory of the Latin American peoples over imperial oppression and ignominy. From this Bolivarian Venezuela, heroic and in battle, we salute the loving commitment of Commander President Daniel Ortega and the Vice President, Comrade Rosario Murillo, to continue materializing the legacy of Sandino and building a more dignified, just and humane Homeland of Peace.

Long live Sandino!

Long live Nicaragua, Blessed and Always Free!
