The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its rejection of the retention and prohibition of entry into Peruvian territory of two Magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice, by the migratory authorities of that country, on October 1st, 2019.
In this regard, it is necessary to inform that the Magistrates arrived in the city of Lima, to represent the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, in the 2nd Preparatory Meeting of the «XX Ibero-American Judicial Summit», to be held from October 02 to 04, in the Republic of Peru. However, upon the arrival of the officials, they were denied entry and later forced to return to Venezuela.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the outrage caused to Venezuelan officials, denying them entry into Peruvian territory, under the arguments of «Migratory restrictions ordered by the government of Peru», in flagrant violation of its obligations as host country, as well as of international conventions concluded and ratified by both nations.
The unilateral decision of the Peruvian government to deny entry to Venezuelan civil servants not only represents an outrage to the Magistrates, but also violates the values of multilateralism and international cooperation, which are the basis of the United Nations Charter.
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela urges the Peruvian authorities to avoid events like this do not take place again and to adhere to International law as the rule governing the relations of two sovereign States.
