Venezuela and Iran ratify cooperative ties in the face of Covid-19 pandemic challenges

This morning, Monday April 13, 2020, the Presidents of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, held a phone call in order to strengthen the historic comprehensive cooperation ties between the two nations, especially in view of the challenges posed by the current global circumstances, marked by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the lives of millions of human beings and its consequences for global economy. Both leaders expressed their willingness to cooperate in order to jointly address the approach to the Coronavirus and ensure effective communication between scientific experts of both countries to exchange experiences on good practices, clinical protocols and preventive measures. The Presidents of Venezuela and Iran also stressed the importance of strengthening the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and welcomed the recent agreement on the OPEC Plus mechanism as a first collective step towards stabilizing the oil market, which is so necessary for the recovery of global economy. In the face of the restrictions imposed by Covid-19, the Presidents established a distance working method to guarantee that all cooperation projects advanced for the Binational Joint Commission maintain their accelerated pace trough permanent contacts between ministries and responsible institutions, in areas as diverse as energy, industry, agriculture, technology, finance, among others. Lastly, Presidents Hassan Rouhani and Nicolás Maduro, reiterated their firm denounce of the unilateral coercive measures imposed illegally and arbitrarily by the Trump Administration against their peoples, while confirming that they would fight together against these cruel and inhumane sanctions that Washington decides to maintain and even extend at such a delicate time for humankind. They concluded by stating that the union of Venezuela and Iran is consolidated in the face of every attack by imperialism and that together they will overcome any difficulty and achieve the comprehensive development of their sovereign and independent peoples.
