Venezuela says Russia’s role is “determining” in finding vaccine against COVID-19

“Russia’s role is determining (…) in finding a vaccine for humanity,” said Executive Vice-president Delcy Rodríguez during a high-level meeting with Russian businesspeople in Moscow.

On behalf of the Bolivarian Government, the Venezuelan vice-president thanked Russia’s efforts for being “a scientific and technological power (…) at the forefront of the development of a vaccine” to make humanity immune to novel coronavirus.

In this regard, Rodríguez recalled that Venezuelan is participating in the Third Phase of the Sputnik V vaccine clinical trials, also conducted in Belarus, Brazil, United Arab Emirates and India.

On November 11, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which finances the development of Sputnik V, informed the vaccine is 92% effective, according to analysis of preliminary data of the Third Phase.

Venezuela’s Executive Vice-president Delcy Rodríguez arrived in Moscow on November 12 to present the Anti-Blockade Law for National Development and the Guarantee of Human Rights, a legal instrument that seeks to protect foreign investments from the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the U.S. Government.
