Venezuela condemns terrorist attacks in Mozambique

This Thursday, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, expressed his deepest rejection to the terrorist attacks perpetrated in the Republic of Mozambique against its civilian population.

“We receive with great dismay the news about the terrorist attacks in northern Mozambique against its civilian population. Venezuela strongly condemns this type of actions”, he expressed through his Twitter account (@jaarreaza).

Foreign Minister Arreaza, on behalf of the people and Government of Venezuela, sent all his solidarity to the people and the Government of President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

The information about the beheading and dismemberment of 50 people on a soccer field in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, were provided by the local police. Similarly, police officials claimed that the terrorist group that carried out the attack swore allegiance to the self-proclaimed Islamic State in 2019.

At a press conference, the general commander of the Mozambican National Police, Bernardino Rafael, reported that the terrorists attacked several towns in the Miudumbe and Macomia districts -northern part of the country-, killing the civilian population and kidnapping women and children.

It is estimated that the confrontation against Islamist militiamen has already killed more than 2,000 people since 2017. According to reports from human rights organizations, the attacks have led to a serious humanitarian crisis, with more than 300,000 people internally displaced and 712 thousand requiring humanitarian assistance.
