Intellectuals, academicians to debate First Chapter of Caracas Decolonial School from October 26 to 30

From October 26 to 30, intellectuals and academicians from different countries will debate the 1st Chapter of the Caracas Decolonial School titled “Decolonial Criticism in Times of Pandemic,” which will offer different views on the complex processes faced by the Global South after the World Health Organization (WGO) declared COVID-19 as a pandemic.

The 1st Chapter will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and will be streaming on the YouTube channels of the Simón Bolívar Institute and the Caracas Decolonial School.

Lecturers will include Enrique Dussel (Mexico), José Romero Losacco (Venezuela), Karina Ochoa (Mexico), Ramon Gorsfoguel (Puerto Rico), Juan Carlos Rodriguez (Venezuela), Aura Cumes (Guatemala), Meyby Ugueto (Venezuela), and Roberto Hernández (United States).

The pandemic has deepened inequalities, while capital is being reshaped in the economic periphery, destroying and undermining the rights achieved by peoples n struggles.

Therefore, this 1st Chapter represents a call for reflection on the world’s future, including issues ranging from criticism against the model of civilization of the patriarchal, snobbish modernity to the need of building a pluriversal world focused on the reproduction of life in all its forms.

The Caracas Decolonial School is an event dating back from 2016, when its first edition was held thanks to the support of the Ministry of People’s Power for Ecosocialism and Water and the Ministry of People’s Power for University Education, Science and Technology.
