This Friday, October 2, a historic event occurred after the arrival to the homeland of the first batch of the Russian vaccine “Sputnik -V”, for phase 3 of the clinical trial against COVID-19, as part of the agreement between the People’s Power Ministry for Health (MPPSS) and the Gamaleya Moscow Epidemiology and Microbiology Research Center, thus making Venezuela the first country in Latin America to receive this vaccine.

This shipment was received by the Executive Vice-president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, the People’s Power Minister for Health, Dr. Carlos Alvarado and Alexey Seredin, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, as well as the of People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza and the Vice-minister for Europe, Yván Gil, at the Maiquetía International Airport “Simón Bolívar”, La Guaira state.

“We are very excited that Venezuela is the first country in the Western Hemisphere to receive the third phase of the clinical trial of this vaccine. It is a historic day for our country”, highlighted the Executive Vice-president.

Since March, President Maduro, through the Presidential Commission for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19, has created cooperation mechanisms jointly with the government people to ensure free access to health for Venezuelans.

Among the actions undertaken by the National Executive are the implementation of extended and personalized screening days, disinfection days throughout the country, the provision of equipment and tools to the health sector, as well as the guarantee of all treatments to combat infection for free.

In this way, Venezuela and Russia continue to strengthen their cooperative relations, under the principles of mutual respect, creating solid alliances that seek to guarantee the well-being of the peoples.
