Ambassador Jorge Valero: Human Rights Council must guarantee universality and non-selectivity

This Wednesday during the 45th Ordinary Session of the UN Human Rights Council, based in Geneva, an interactive dialogue was held on the so-called “independent fact-finding mission” in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The permanent representative of the Latin American country, Jorge Valero, asserted that the Council must guarantee universality, objectivity and non-selectivity in the examination of human rights issues, especially in the Venezuelan context.

The diplomat assured that the CIA and other organs of the United States Government are in charge of channeling millions of dollars to internationally position the false report prepared by this mission.

On the other hand, he stressed that in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela all human rights and democratic freedoms are enjoyed and respected.

“In my country there have been coups d’état, foreign military invasions, assassination attempts, assassinations of public officials and supporters of the Revolution. The State and its institutions have responded to defend democratic stability and national peace”, he said.

In this context, he specified that officials who have violated human rights have been punished.

“In the last three years, 565 state security officials have been charged. 447 officials have been deprived of liberty, 127 have been convicted of violating human rights”, he reported.

Finally, he recalled the presidential pardon granted to 110 opposition leaders in order to promote peace and achieve national reconciliation.
