The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, began his speech by recalling that the UN Charter continues to be the fundamental element of international law, and that, like any international organization, it must advocate for the protection of the world, for sustainable development of peoples and continents, and help overcome local crises.

“I am convinced that this anniversary obliges us to remember the enduring principles: the equality of sovereign states, non-interference in internal affairs, the right of peoples to determine their own destiny, the refusal to threaten or use force, and the political solution of controversies”, he added.

Regarding the world economy, the Russian president said that it will take a long time to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and effective solutions will have to be found together; To do this, he advocated “green corridors” in international trade that allow rescuing global growth and reducing unemployment.

Democratization and reform of the Assembly

The Head of State said that “the aggressiveness of the blockade” promoted by Washington against his country “has escalated to a qualitatively new level” that has significantly affected the economy and development. “The US government does not hide its intention to apply new and harsher aggressive measures against Cuba in the coming months”, he added.

Regarding Venezuela, he affirmed that the South American country “will always count on the solidarity of Cuba in the face of attempts to destabilize and subvert the constitutional order, the civic-military union and destroy the work begun by Commander Hugo Chávez Frías and continued by the president. Nicolás Maduro Moros in favor of the Venezuelan people”.

He also expressed his support for the Governments of Iran and Russia in the face of the sanctions to which they have been subjected.

No sanctions, no wars

Iranian President Hasan Rohaní said in his speech that Iran has found it difficult to cooperate and make alliances because it is facing the “toughest sanctions that have ever been imposed in its history”, this in reference to the attempts from the United States for reinstating UN sanctions.

The president of the Persian country also criticized Washington’s position in the Middle East, saying that it was Washington who “has opposed the will of the peoples of the region” and has accused Iran of the conflicts that occurred in Palestine, Yemen, Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq.

Globalize solidarity

The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, began his first speech at the 75th UN General Assembly advocating for multilateralism based on solidarity, and urging to build a vaccine against social injustice, environmental depredation, and discrimination in all its aspects.

The Argentine president spoke out for dialogue and cooperation between nations as the only way to overcome the ravages that COVID-19 has left such as poverty, hunger and inequality.

In the same way, he condemned the economic blockades and terrorism, at the same time that he called to boost the capacity of the United Nations to promote economic, industrial and social policies oriented to the structural change of the economies.

In another vein, he reaffirmed the legitimate and imprescriptible sovereignty rights of Argentina over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime spaces, illegally occupied by the United Kingdom 187 years ago, noting that that country persists in its attitude of ignoring the call to resume negotiations.
