Venezuela and South Africa address issues of bilateral cooperation in multilateral matters

This Thursday, the Vice-minister for Multilateral Issues of the People’s Power Ministry for Foreign Relations, Alexander Yánez, and the Sub-director of Global Governance and Continental Agenda of the Republic of South Africa, Mxolosi Nkosi, held a videoconference with the aim of exploring bilateral cooperation mechanisms in multilateral matters within the framework of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The telematic meeting was conducive to analyzing the world situation generated as a result of the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating consequences for the world, as well as the social, political and economic panorama in Venezuela, after the imposition of coercive measures. unilateral -miscalled sanctions- by the United States and allied governments, which have hindered the supply of food and medicine -among other necessary goods- to the Venezuelan population.

Regarding this, the South African side stressed that its position privileges political negotiation, diplomatic dialogue and solidarity, since Venezuela is considered a friendly country of South Africa, which has been given humanitarian assistance through the Red Cross.

Likewise, the parties expressed their mutual appreciation for the willingness to meet and discuss issues of common interest for the benefit of the peoples within the framework of the agreements reached at the last meeting between the Vice-ministers for Multilateral Issues and for Africa, Alexander Yánez and Yuri Pimentel, with the South African ambassador to Venezuela, Joseph Nkosi.

It should be noted that other issues addressed revolved around Venezuela’s initiative to create a Group of Friends of the United Nations Charter, the Reform of the UN Security Council (UN/SC), the situation of the human rights, solidarity with the people of Western Sahara and Palestine, as well as the strengthening of relations between regional organizations in Latin America and Africa.
