Venezuela and Benin strengthen energy ties

This Tuesday, through videoconference, a meeting was held between the directors of the Beninese Petroleum Society (SOBEH) of the Republic of Benin and a delegation of the People’s Power Ministry for Petroleum and Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, with the aim of promoting the bilateral cooperation agenda in energy matters.

The General Director of SOBEH, Issifou Moussa Yari, began the meeting by commenting that the Beninese Hydrocarbons Society is a very young company, created in 2013, interested in the training and education of its personnel, to consolidate the institution in favor of Benin. Along the same lines, he pointed out that the activity “is like a historic meeting for Benin and SOBEH”, thus recognizing Venezuela’s experience as an oil country.

For his part, the Vice-president of International Affairs of PDVSA, Rander Peña highlighted the importance of the virtual meeting in the framework of South-South Cooperation promoted by Commander Hugo Chávez and President Nicolás Maduro, and detailed the extensive experience that Venezuela has of more than one hundred years in the oil field.

In this sense, Agustin Lawin, director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Water and Mines, stressed the importance of technical training in all aspects of the oil industry and the total disposition to advance in the construction of a joint agenda.

The president of the Venezuelan Institute of Technology for Petroleum (Intevep), Yurbis Gomez, took the opportunity to make a brief presentation of the capabilities of the institution, which has 46 years of existence, developing research projects, simulation, services of engineering, laboratories, among other areas, to propose training exchanges with the African country.

In another vein, the ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Benin, Belén Teresa Orsini Pic, thanked those present for their willingness, hoping to advance soon in future agreements on energy matters.

It should be noted that on behalf of the Republic of Benin attended: Issifou Moussa Yari, General Director of Sobeh, and Agustin Lawin, Director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Water and Mines along the technical team.
