President Maduro and Foreign Minister Arreaza participate in the International Seminar “50 years after the victory of Popular Unity” in Chile

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro and the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, participated this Friday in the International Seminar “50 years after the victory of Popular Unity”, in which they claimed the historical significance of the victory of Salvador Allende’s democracy in Chile, on September 4, 1970, and the validity of his legacy at a time when Venezuela and other countries are subject to imperial aggression for building socialist projects with the people.

The Venezuelan Head of State, after extending a loving and fraternal greeting to the Chilean people, said that to speak of the martyred president, Salvador Allende, is “to speak of one of the most beautiful stories of a leader in his struggle for the people. Courage, the integrity, the authenticity for being loyal to his principles, to his ideas, to his humble and hard-working people.”

He defined as an “Allendist awakening” the street demonstrations that the Chilean people have been leading since September 2019, demanding a constituent process that ends existing social inequalities.

“Allende lives in our fight, in our battles and in our victories”, said President Maduro in his brief speech.

For his part, Foreign Minister Arreaza compared the imperial strategy applied to the Popular Unity government, before and after Allende’s triumph and his three-year term, with that imposed on Cuba before the Chilean case; to Nicaragua later and to Venezuela today. “It is the same format, the same economic pattern”, he said.

He commented that Venezuela takes the officials of the United States Government before the International Criminal Court, because it considers that the effects of unilateral coercive measures, which also apply in Cuba, Iran, Mozambique, and to Allende’s management at that time, among others, represent crimes against humanity.

The Venezuelan diplomat stressed that “just as Allende did not surrender, neither will we in Venezuela or in Cuba ever do so.”

The telematic activity, which will run until this Saturday, September 5, is organized by the Communist Party of Chile and other political, social and union organizations, and academic institutions in the southern country and others in the region.
