President Maduro condemns continuation of imperialist aggressions against Venezuela

President Nicolás Maduro condemned the continuation of imperialist aggressions aimed at undermining the cohesion of revolutionary forces and handpicking a de facto government in the country.

“There is a decision in the north (United States) and Colombia by the oligarchy to assassinate me and assassinate the General Staff and the political-military high command of this Revolution,” he said in an interview with Venezuelan journalist Ernesto Villegas.

The Venezuelan president claimed he has received threats by the White House in a clear reference to recent statements delivered by U.S. Special Envoy Elliott Abrams to exacerbate aggressions against Venezuela.

“Obviously we hope that Maduro will not survive the year and we are working hard to make that happen,” Abrams told members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on August 4.

In this sense, the Venezuelan president recalled the attempts of those who govern from the White House and the Palace of Nariño to violate Venezuela’s sovereignty.

“It was the goal of the attempted coup d’état on April 30, 2019, to come for me and kidnap me (…) and of the assassination attempt with drones on August 4, 2018. We captured the perpetrators, and the masterminds were exposed. The international press revealed their plans,” he said.

Likewise, President Maduro warned that this new threat “cannot be taken as a game,” and said he will stand strong in the face of this extremist oligarchy’s meddling.

“I’m not afraid of imperialism. I’m not afraid of the Colombian oligarchy. I will never betray the people. I will never surrender,” he stated.
