Foreign Minister Arreaza congratulates Nicaraguan people on 41st anniversary of Sandinista Popular Revolution

Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs Jorge Arreaza, on behalf of the people and Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, sent his regards on Sunday to the brotherly people and Government of the Republic of Nicaragua on the commemoration of the 41st anniversary of the victory of the Sandinista Popular Revolution.

The Sandinista Revolution was carried out by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) in 1979 against one of the world’s bloodiest dictatorships, led by General Anastasio Somoza García, who was imposed as the chief of Nicaragua’s National Guard by the U.S. government.

“They have sown and harvested the fruits of many victories. Sandinismo is there on the foundations of the Nicaraguan people. Sandinismo is there holding the political power, raising awareness and sowing independence for Nicaragua and our America (…)  We congratulate you from Venezuela,” expressed the Venezuelan foreign minister, who also recalled Latin America’s independence struggles against hegemonic empires throughout history.

“Bolivar defeated the Spanish empire. Sandino defeated the U.S. empire. He was the first one who did it in our lands, and, of course, Fidel, Chávez, Daniel Ortega; and today President Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela is permanently defeating the U.S. empire in its new neoliberal phase, in its new phase of aggression,” he stressed.

Finally, Arreaza pointed out that the Sandinista Revolution has been a model of struggle and victory since 1979; therefore, “with the Bolivarian Revolution, with the Cuban Revolution, and with the revolutions of humankind, we are going to always ensure victory, justice and equality.”

In a statement issued on July 19 by the Ministry of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs, the Venezuelan Government reiterated his solidarity, brotherhood and commitment “in the face of the battles allowing us to consolidate the emancipation of our peoples, together with Sandno and Bolivar, who gave their lives for the defense of the Great Homeland.”
