President Maduro ratifies willingness to talk with Trump

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, asserted that, “when necessary”, he is willing to dialogue with his counterpart in the United States (USA), Donald Trump.

“Just as I met with (Joe) Biden and we spoke at length and in a respectful manner, which was recorded at the time, I am also willing to respectfully speak with President Donald Trump”, he sentenced in statements granted to the Venezuelan News Agency (AVN).

In an interview with the Axios news web portal, Trump stated that he is open to the possibility of talking with his Venezuelan counterpart if “Maduro would like to meet.”

Noting that “I never oppose meetings”, the US magnate acknowledged that he has doubts about his political recognition of the self-proclaimed Juan Guaidó.

Guaidó was elected. I think that I wasn’t necessarily in favor, but some people that liked it, some people didn’t. I was OK with it. I don’t think it was very meaningful one way or the other.” Trump explained to Axios.

In this sense, the Venezuelan dignitary reiterated that “in the same way that I spoke with Biden, I could speak with Trump.”

The aforementioned dialogue between Biden and Maduro occurred in 2015, when both attended the inauguration ceremony of the President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, at the Planalto Palace, in Brasilia.

Respectfully, the Head of State demanded the then Vice-president of the USA. respect for Venezuela.

“We asked the United States, I told Biden, and we have told the United States a thousand times, in public and private, that we want relationships of respect, nothing more”, he requested in January 2015.
