Venezuelan government expands sanitary cord on the border with Colombia and Brazil due to an increase in cases of COVID-19

Given the scarce sanitary and epidemiological protocols in Brazil and Colombia, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, ordered the extension of the sanitary cord on the common border in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the nation.

From the Miraflores Palace, located in Caracas, he warned that there is a latent danger before the entry of compatriots through informal steps, whose estimates exceed 18,000 people.

“There are unscrupulous smugglers who charge 100 or 150 dollars, to pass and sneak trails (…) They enter infected people from Boa Vista (Brazil) who are going to infect people in the east of the country”, he denounced during a conference called “Active works for the people”.

The dignitary questioned the behavior of compatriots who, being confined in hotels, violated security protocols by “receiving family members and going for a walk”, a situation that led to the contagion of other Venezuelans.

As a self-criticism, he pointed out that the Comprehensive Social Care Posts (Pasi) did not function properly in border areas, which is why they will radicalize control measures.

“The sanitary cord and the Pasi have functioning problems, I have to say it and that is why we are taking drastic measures to reactivate 100% functioning of the sanitary cord”, he emphasized.

From this Monday, June 22, the radicalization of the social quarantine will take effect in the states of Aragua, Bolívar, Miranda, La Guaira and Zulia, as well as in the Capital District, “to cut the expansion of the Coronavirus”.
