Fourth contingent of Che Guevara Brigade doctors rushes to Zulia State to fight COVID-19 hotspot

From the Maiquetia International Airport, in La Guaira State, a contingent of doctors of Cuba’s “Ernesto Che Guevara” were dispatched on Wednesday, June 17, to Zulia State to fight the COVID-19 hotspot located in the city of Maracaibo.

Gerardo Briceño, health vice-minister, said that this assistance is part of the cooperation between Venezuelan and Cuba. “This fourth brigade is going to Zulia to assist amid the sanitary contingency in that region.”

The Cuban representative of the Ernesto Che Guevara Brigade pointed out they have also been dispatched to the borders with Colombia and Brazil to avoid the propagation of COVID-19.

“We want to convey to the Venezuelan people that we will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them, providing care to the population and doing the necessary tests,” he said.

He explained that this contingent of doctors includes 4 intensive care physicians, 33 nurses and 3 technicians, among other specialists in the area to reduce the risks of propagation of the virus.

The man task of this sanitary brigade is to provide immediate healthcare to coronavirus patients and strengthen the preventive and biosecurity measures in Zulia.

Likewise, Vice-minister Briceño stressed that this contingent of doctors will make house-by-house visits to do massive testing, detect COVIF-19 cases and attend to patients to avoid propagation.
