President Daniel Ortega: ‘ALBA relies on powerful tools to fight the pandemic’

President of the Republic of Nicaragua Daniel Ortega stressed Wednesday, June 10, at the ALBA-TCP Conference that the bloc was conceived to strengthen the economies of those peoples willing to help each other in difficult times and complement each other in different development fields in the face of the aggressions of capitalist countries.

“Who would have thought that developed countries and powers that felt invincible were going to be exposed due to their lack of sensibility and respect for the human rights of their own citizens amid this pandemic?” he said.

Ortega highlighted that the performance of these countries on health, despite their advance in science and technological development has been deplorable. “They did not have a quality public health system to face a situation like this.”

In this regard, he mentioned as an example the situation in most of the developing countries, on which private health and a capitalist model have been imposed, and yet they have responded efficiently with their limited resources.

Venezuela and Nicaragua have doubled the number of hospitals and health centers since 2007, and still today they are opening new ones to guarantee the right to free health.

“Of course, we have been impacted, but in the ALBA, under the principles of solidarity and free, quality healthcare and education for the people, we rely on powerful tools to face these big challenges, because by joining our forces, we are better fighting this battle.”
