Venezuela reports 171 new cases of COVID-19

The Presidential Commission for the Prevention, Attention and Control of Coronavirus (COVID-19) reported the detection of 171 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, totaling 2,316 infections in the country.

In the usual update of the statistics of the new coronavirus, the Sector Vice-president of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, reported on the detection of these new infections, detailing that there are 65 cases of community transmission, 105 in nationals from Colombia, of whom 101 entered through the state of Táchira, 3 through Zulia and 1 through Apure, and 1 through contact with international travelers.

Regarding the return of compatriots to the country, he explained that to date they total 55 thousand 451.

Rodríguez reported that in the case of the infectious outbreak detected in the Las Pulgas Market in the city of Maracaibo, Zulia state, it is thoroughly evaluated given that “it has generated higher mortality than in other parts of the country”, he emphasized.

Likewise, he specified that 385 people have been recovered, equivalent to 17 percent of the registered cases, while 1,408 citizens receive medical attention in sentinel hospitals, 485 in Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI), 16 in private clinics and with the death 2 patients who died in the last 24 hours, the total of deaths amount to 22.

“Venezuela still maintains a mortality rate below 1%, one of the lowest in the world”, added the Vice-president, while extending “the solidarity hug and condolences to the families of these Venezuelans”, on behalf of the National Government.

Finally, he reported that Venezuela has carried out 1,232,269 personalized tests to detect and rule out COVID-19 infection so far, applying 34,109 diagnostic tests per million inhabitants.

Humanitarian Technical Assistance

Venezuela received this Saturday, from the People’s Republic of China, a shipment of 80 tons of medical supplies and technological equipment for the processing of PCR tests for the detection of COVID-19.

Among the inputs received, the following stand out: 650 thousand rapid tests for the detection of COVID-19, 600 thousand reagents and 250 thousand diagnostic tests and for the application of PCR, 943 thousand disposable medical masks, 560 thousand masks for use by the population, 3 thousand 840 disposable gowns and 229 thousand 536 extraction kit.

7 + 7 flexibility scheme

The also Minister for Communication and Information reiterated that next Monday, June 8, 7 days of voluntary and radical social quarantine, begin as part of the new 7 + 7 flexibility scheme established by the National Government.
