UN Commission, Foreign Ministry visit Points of Comprehensive Social Assistance in Apure State

Officials of the United Nations System in Venezuela and representatives of the Ministry for People’s Power for Foreign Affairs visited the Points of Comprehensive Social Assistance (PASI) in Guasdalito, Apure State, in the Venezuelan-Colombian border, to strengthen humanitarian cooperation in the fight against COVID-19.

Peter Grohmann, resident coordinator of the United Nations System in Venezuela, and Alexander Yánez, vice-minister for Multilateral Affairs, headed the Commission during the visit to the Alto Apure bordering area to determine the need in the PASIs and coordinate the UN humanitarian response.

Likewise, the UN and Venezudla authorities held meetings with Mayor of Guasdualito José María Romero, Governor of Apure State Ramón Carrizalez and Apure’s military authorities to coordinate assistance to Venezuelan nationals returning from Colombia, the COVID-19 response plan and UN humanitarian cooperation.

In early May, UN representatives visited the PASIs on the Tachira’s border in order to know the assistance protocols implemented by the Venezuelan government to assists Venezuelan nationals returning from Colombia and other South American countries amid the pandemic.

The Points of Comprehensive Social Assistance (PASI) are spaces equipped to house Venezuelans during the two isolation weeks established by the Bolivarian Government as part of the cordon sanitaire activated to contain the propagations of coronavirus in the country.
