Public servants complete training on UN special procedures

As part of the training process of public servants of the Venezuelan State in the field of human rights, this Thursday a virtual workshop was held with the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention of the United Nations System.

This as part of the cooperation and technical assistance plan established between the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The workshop was facilitated by José Bermúdez, president and rapporteur of the working group.

The various State institutions that have jurisdiction in this matter participated, including the Public Ministry, the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), the Ombudsman, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry and the People’s Power Ministry for Internal Relations, Justice and Peace.

During the activity, Bermúdez gave information about the objective that this special procedure develops, and the action methods that it implements, as well as the way in which the cases that are presented before that instance are processed.

For his part, the executive secretary of the National Human Rights Council, Larry Davoe, who also participated in the virtual workshop, reiterated that “Venezuela has ratified its willingness to cooperate with the universal human rights system”.

He also specified that this workshop closes a training cycle on special procedures that began a few months ago and that made it possible to publicize the real situation of human rights in Venezuela.

“It is very positive, since it leaves as result a much more consolidated, more solid State institutionality, with greater capacities to respond to all the obligations that Venezuela has in the international field of human rights”, he stressed.
