Venezuela and South Africa propose multilateral strategies amidst the fight against COVID-19

The Vice-minister for Multilateral Issues of the People’s Power Ministry for Foreign Relations, Alexander Yánez, held a meeting on Tuesday with the South African ambassador to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Joseph Nkosi.

The meeting served to discuss, among other things, the strengthening of joint work strategies in the multilateral sphere.

During the meeting, the parties also evaluated the latest developments in the framework of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) and the position of their countries in this organization.

On the bilateral ties and joint projects, the presidents of both countries, Nicolás Maduro and Cyril Ramaphosa, agreed during a telephone conversation last April, to give continuity to the agreements reached at the Binational South African-Venezuela Business Forum held in January 2020, as well as the need to organize a next meeting between the two leaders, to deepen and further expand relations between the two peoples.

Finally, during the telephone conversation, the Venezuelan Head of State congratulated the outstanding coordination work that President Ramaphosa has carried out since the Pro Tempore Presidency of the African Union in such complex world circumstances, and conveyed his greeting and solidarity to all peoples and governments of Mother Africa, reiterating the need to strengthen cooperation mechanisms and links between both regions, especially between the African continent and South America.
