The number of COVID-19 infections in Venezuela amounts to 1,121 cases

The data of COVID-19 infections in Venezuela increases to 1,121 cases, after 111 new infections were diagnosed in the country. The news was announced by the constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, who specified that 18 infections have been through community transmission, while 20 are the product of international contact with travelers and 73 in citizens from Colombia, where 69 entered through the Apure state, 3 through Táchira and 1 through Zulia. “Today with these 111 cases it is the second highest number (…) the cases come from citizens who have entered Venezuela fleeing from Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile (…) from May 16 to date, more than the 70 percent of cases are international or in contact with imported cases”. Statistics indicate that 75 percent of infections come from abroad, so the Head of State explained that of the 843 imported infections, 674 are international travelers, 169 by international contact and 128 by community transmission. In this regard, the Dignitary showed the record sheet, where 433 infections come from Colombia, 95 from Brazil, 49 from Peru and 36 from Ecuador, among others. It is important to remember that the Bolivarian Government has carried out a comprehensive and daily monitoring of the pandemic that has stopped the world, making daily reports on the statistics of the new Coronavirus in the country, which has allowed to know the origin of each case to give relevant attention and evaluate the effectiveness of the methodology used to prevent the spread of the virus. On the other hand, President Maduro reported that 262 people have recovered from these infection, which represents 23.4 percent of the total number of cases that Venezuela registers today, with 849 active cases, of which 475 are being treated in sentinel hospitals, 357 in Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI), 17 in private clinics. To date Venezuela has carried out 804 thousand 4 personalized and expanded tests for the screening of COVID-19, which has made it possible to apply 26 thousand 800 tests per million inhabitants. “Venezuela has the record of tests, we have gone to the streets”, he emphasized and urged the work team of the Presidential Commission to increase house-to-house visits to look for infectious cases.
