58 new cases of COVID-19 detected and total amounts to 882 in Venezuela

When 58 new cases of COVID-19 were detected, the total number of infections rose to 882 in Venezuela, reported the Vice-president of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez. From the Miraflores Palace, located in Caracas, she explained that 36 cases are imported, of which 14 came from Colombia; 11 from Brazil and 11 from Ecuador. Meanwhile, 22 are nationals (six by community transmission and 16 by contacts with international travelers). In this sense, she explained that the COVID-19 carriers through international contacts correspond to the care personnel (security and medical) who provide services in the epidemiological fence of the border.
“We have detected a focus – which has already been confined – in the Bolívar state police where the Comprehensive Social Assistance Post in Santa Elena de Uairén was being attended, there 14 policemen and two people from the health area have been infected, who are in first queue receiving our compatriots”, she pointed out.
Rodríguez reiterated that specialized teams are kept deployed in the sanitary and epidemiological fence of the border area in order to prevent the spread of the infectious disease. She explained that the recovery rate remains at 262, which translates into 29.7% of the reported cases of COVID-19 since March 13. Currently, 610 infections are still active, of which 284 are in sentinel hospitals, 310 in Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI) and 16 in private clinics. In relation to the application of diagnostic tests, she specified that 697,691 have been carried out, which represents 23,256 tests per million inhabitants. Due to the spread of COVID-19 in South America, 45 thousand 905 compatriots have entered through the border area. Of the total, 510 Venezuelans were positive for the infectious disease. So far, 5 million 173 thousand 436 cases of COVID-19 are registered globally, with the United States (USA) being the epicenter of the pandemic with 1 million 617 thousand 856 infections.
