Number of infected by COVID-19 rises to 749 as 131 new cases are detected
Venezuela reports 131 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
The information was provided by the Sector Vice-president of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, detailing that “16 -cases- are of community transmission and 5 for contacts with international travelers”.
The rest of the infections were detected in 110 citizens who came from other latitudes, imported cases that entered through the states of Táchira, Apure, Zulia and Bolívar, totaling 749 infections by Coronavirus.
“Only yesterday, 81 infected cases were registered in Colombia, 23 in Brazil and 6 in Ecuador”, he said, while assuring that these are the consequences when the nationals come in massive numbers by thousands and thousands from Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, Brazil and Chile, fleeing the Coronavirus, abuse and xenophobia.
The risk of these families who want to return to their homes “is not from Venezuela, it is from the countries from which they return”, he emphasized.
Venezuela is surrounded by countries where its rulers minimized the lethality of the virus and took late measures to contain the spread of the infection, and the contagion figures demonstrate this.
In the total number of cases per million inhabitants, Rodríguez explained that “277 cases have been registered in the United States, while Ecuador has 158, Peru 85, Brazil 79, Chile 25, Colombia 12 and Venezuela has 0.35 cases per million population”.
In this sense, the Minister of Communication also informed that as of May 20 the protocol of attention to compatriots will have greater rigor to protect citizens who have complied with the social and collective quarantine decreed throughout the Republic by the president, Nicolás Maduro.
The objective of the measure is to avoid that “due to carelessness, not from Venezuela, but from governments that underestimated the virus, a risk situation presents itself to us”, he concluded.
