Foreign Minister Arreaza to Donald Trump: ‘The true plague hitting humankind is savage capitalism’

“The People’s Republic of China has always been known for its solidarity and the promotion of a shared development,” stressed on Wednesday, May 13, Minister of People’s Power for Foreign Affairs Jorge Arreaza, in response to the recent accusation of Donald Trump’s administration against the Asian country. On Twitter, the U.S. president referred to the COVID-19 pandemic as “the Plague from China” despite the World Health Organization (WHO) explained that the name of a virus should not be country-specific. In this regard, the Venezuelan foreign minister stressed on his Twitter account @jaarreaza that “the true plague hitting humankind is savage capitalism, embodied by the corporative elite ruling the United States.” Since China managed to overcome the coronavirus crisis and did not reported any more local cases, it started to share its healthcare model and equipment to deal with the crisis in other countries. China has donated $20 million to the WHO, sent doctors to Iran and Italy, built a laboratory in Iraq, shipped test kits to the Philippines and protective gear to Pakistan and France. In Venezuela, cooperation with the Asian nation has been key to keep the COVID-19 curve flattened and provide healthcare to patients. So far, Venezuela has received more than 157 tons of medical supplies and equipment from China as part of the airlift and cooperation established between the two countries.
