“On Monday we could talk with more than 100 athletes who connected with us via Zoom in a first video conference. We are working and remotely addressing their needs, the first of which is to bring them back home,” said the Venezuelan youth and sports minister, who also announced they are “already working on the logistics so that our athletes can return.”
Minister Infante pointed out that every Monday they will hold video conferences with athletes starting at 9:00 am (Venezuela’s time).
In this regard, he stressed: “We are 100% committed to our athletes, to those abroad and those in Venezuela, amid difficulties. We are devising mechanisms with the conviction that we can provide comprehensive attention to Venezuelan athletes.”
The Repatriation Plan was recently announced by Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, and it was initially aimed at those Venezuelans fleeing xenophobia, arbitrary evictions, persecution and novel coronavirus.
So far, 23,822 Venezuelans have returned through border crossing points, looking for protection in the face of the propagation of COVID-19 in neighboring countries.
