World organizations call for the defense of life, peace and social justice

On the International Day of Anti-imperialist Struggle, political organizations, social movements, and international networks are calling for the celebration of anti-imperialist May 1 in defense of life with dignity and labor rights, despite the social isolation imposed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the document, which has been endorsed by numerous world organizations, they recognize that though they will not gather in the streets and squares like previous years, they will continue their struggle to show to the governments, the bosses, the banks, and to the totality of the ruling class, that workers sustain the world. The Declaration denounces imperialism and the attempt of right-wing governments and transnational corporations to offload the costs of the current global crisis onto the working-class through layoffs, evictions, salary cuts to formal workers, as well as the exclusion of millions of informal workers with no fixed income or guaranteed labor rights. Therefore, the organizations calling for the International Day of Anti-imperialist Struggle demand that governments put all public and private resources at the service of controlling and alleviating the effects of this pandemic to guarantee social protection. They also demand an end to the criminal financial and economic sanctions imposed by the imperialist US government against 39 countries and that are focused with the most considerable force against Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran. The endorsing international organizations denounce that, because of these unilateral coercive measures, the people from these countries have already suffered from a lack of medicine and medical supplies before the pandemic. Finally, the Declaration reaffirms that in this period of the pandemic, international spaces of coordination must be maintained to stop the far right, US imperialism, and defend life, peace, and social justice.
