More than 100 Venezuelans return from Brazil per day

“Through Bolivar state, 130 people return per day,” informed Vice-president Delcy Rodríguez after President Nicolás Maduro invited Venezuelans in other countries to return and protect themselves from COVID-19. “I am telling you. Come and be safe in your homeland (…) The doors of Venezuela are open for Venezuelans” as long as they comply with safety and health protocols enabled on bordering states. Venezuela has served as a point of reference to the world regarding COVID-19 preventive and control measures that have enable the country to keep the curve flattened and a implement social, collective quarantine since day 1. On the other hand, Venezuela’s neighboring countries have registered alarming numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths. So far, Brazil has recorded around 85,380 cases and Colombia more than 6,200 cases. This is the result of implementing late and relaxed sanitary policies to attend to their citizens amid the pandemic, about which the World Health Organization warned in late December, 2019. “We are not going to let them infect us from Colombia!” or any other country that do not care for their citizens, stated the Venezuelan president.
