Venezuela reaches more than 299 thousand Covid-19 screening tests carried out

“We have carried out 299 thousand 714 tests in this comprehensive and personalized survey, the idea is to reach 1 million”, reported the Sector Vice-president of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez. From the “Simón Bolívar” Press Room in the Government Palace, he stressed that Venezuela has been able to keep the curve flat thanks to the -opportune- measures of prevention against the spread of the virus. “If we would have followed to the criteria of other countries of not carrying out tests because they did not have symptoms, Venezuela would not have been able to detect and contain” the spread of this disease. “Venezuela until yesterday had 204 cases and if we had not done the social distancing we would be close to 82 thousand cases today”, he stressed. In comparative figures, the also People’s Power Minister for Communication and Information, stated that Venezuela has the lowest infection mortality rate in South America. For every 100,000 inhabitants Colombia is close to 7 deaths, Brazil 43, while Venezuela totals to date is 0.03. “Until now we have to insist on maintaining all the measures that are being established and that are giving the due results”, Rodríguez said. He called on the people not to deviate from the measures or to relax the quarantine, which could generate thousands of cases in 2 weeks.
