Venezuela donates COVID-19 detection tests to Caribbean countries

On Friday, April 10, Venezuela sent a donation of COVID-19 PCR and rapid detection tests to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica and Grenada, informed Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. During a briefing on the strategies implemented by the Venezuelan government to contain and prevent coronavirus, Rodríguez said that massive detection is key to fight and contain the pandemic. “We are supporting our brothers from the Caribbean so that they can also incorporate this process into their sanitary policies,” she explained. The Venezuelan vice president stressed that amid the COVID-19 pandemic “this is the supportive and fraternal spirit that must prevail within the international community.” Venezuela keeps an air lift to received important shipments of medical supplies from China, Russia and the World Health Organization. So far, 159,597 COVID-19 detection tests have been done, making Venezuela the Latin American country that has issued the highest number of tests at a rate of 5,320 per 1 million inhabitants.
