President Maduro announces nationwide social quarantine
President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Nicolas Maduro announced that “as of Tuesday, March 17, at 5:00 am, Venezuela enters a social quarantine.”
The measure includes “the entire country, its 23 states and the Capital District. Everybody to collective quarantine. It’s a drastic, necessary measure,” said the Venezuelan president.
“Today I could see many towns, cities and places in the country that were not part of the seven federal entities that were put in quarantine, and still, the people are keeping their quarantine,” said President Maduro.
The Venezuelan president said that thanks to this, Venezuela steps forward and declares a full social quarantine in all the states and the Capital District.
President Maduro urged “governors, mayors, military chiefs of the Comprehensive Defense Regions, Comprehensive Defense Zones and Comprehensive Defense Areas; the country’s health authorities, heads of the Comprehensive Health System, the Bolivarian National Militia, the country’s social, professional, scientific, military and police force, to enter this full quarantine.”
The announcement was made by the Venezuelan president at the Presidential Command Post, Miraflores Presidential Palace, Caracas, where the Bolivarian Government is permanently taking measures to contain COVID-19 in Venezuela.
