Foreign Minister Arreaza rejects cynicism and hypocrisy of the EU, UNHCR and IOM on Venezuelan migration

This Tuesday from his Twitter account @jaarreaza, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, expressed his rejection to the statements of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR ), Filippo Grandi, at the start of the International Conference of Solidarity on the Refugee and Migrant Crisis of Venezuela, which took place in Brussels, Belgium. The Venezuelan diplomat described as cynical the complicity of the European Union, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and Member States of the UNHCR, by ranting about the Venezuelan immigration situation, in his fallacy of wanting to show the world a supposed concern, while they summon governments that block the economy of the Caribbean country to generate suffering. Given the hypocrisy of Grandi’s speech, the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela tweeted: “What a cynicism: the EU, UNHCR and IOM summon governments that block the Venezuelan economy, generate suffering and migration, steal resources and threaten to isolate and attack Venezuela. Sad scramble for the resources under the hypocritical pretext of his “concern” about migration”. It should be noted that currently Venezuelans who emigrated to other countries in the region are victims of xenophobia and discrimination, making a constant increase in the number of migrants who request the repatriation benefit, through the Plan Vuelta a la Patria, arranged by the Bolivarian Government for free. On the other hand, the Minister took the opportunity to emphasize the supposed desire of the international community to raise funds for the Venezuelan exodus, explaining that the Humanitarian Response Plan made by the United Nations Organization (UN), in coordination with the Bolivarian Government and civil organizations do not own or obtain funds for such work. “Regarding this scramble for the resources: the Humanitarian Response Plan made by the UN in coordination with the Bolivarian Government and civil organizations, does NOT have, nor obtain funds. These countries are not interested in the Venezuelan people. Pure hypocrisy”.
