Foreign Minister Arreaza from the NAM: We must avoid international paralysis around the Palestinian case

During the meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Palestine, congregated on Wednesday in Baku, Azerbaijan, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, urged the member countries to take concrete actions and carry out greater efforts in favor of the Palestinian cause. The Foreign Minister highlighted the need to create a continuous structural plan with efficient programs that give results, and repudiated that other countries in the world use Palestine as an element of geopolitical exchange; and the illegal recognition of Jerusalem for political aggressions. “For example, the president of Honduras promised to move his embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in exchange for recognition to his presidency … We must avoid the paralysis of the international community towards the Palestinian people. There are countries under unilateral coercive measures such as Venezuela and Iran but what happens with Palestine is worse, their right to existence, to self-determination, to their territory and their future have been denied. It is a matter of urgency”, he warned. In relation to the Peace Conference proposed by the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, to approach and seek a prompt solution in the region, he said that “hopefully our movement becomes the basis of that conference, the NAM must be committed and guarantee monetary funds, the budget for Palestinian refugees and politically guarantee the support of the United Nations.
