Bolivarian victory at the UN-Geneva: International cooperation is imposed on interference
The Human Rights Council (HRC) of the United Nations Organization (UN), based in Geneva, approved a resolution submitted by Iran, Turkey, Russia, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Nicaragua, Algeria, Syria, Palestine during its 42nd regular session and supported by the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Ambassador Jorge Valero, permanent representative of Venezuela to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva, informed that the HRC approved today the resolution: “Strengthening cooperation and technical assistance in the field of human rights in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”.
Condemnation of Unilateral Coercive Measures
In this regard and with the approval of this Resolution, the Council recognizes the negative impact generated by the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the Trump administration on the Venezuelan people, measures that prevent the full enjoyment of human rights.
It is the first time that the Human Rights Council makes explicit reference to the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures against the people of Venezuela.
Ambassador Jorge Valero affirmed that in the approved resolution the willingness and political commitment shown by the Venezuelan government to cooperate with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, and his Office is credibly recognized.
It should be noted that the approved resolution also recognizes the efforts and interest of the revolutionary government to implement the recommendations made during the Universal Periodic Review (UPR).
Agreement between Venezuela and the UN Office for Human Rights
Ambassador Jorge Valero said that the Human Rights Council highly values the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Venezuelan government and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, with the purpose of strengthening cooperation and technical assistance in the field of human rights in Venezuela.
In today’s session, the Bolivarian Revolution won a new and resounding diplomatic victory, said Ambassador Valero, obtaining 18 votes in favor and 6 against for the approval of this Resolution.
