Venezuela starts its way to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games
The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, appointed a Tokyo 2020 Presidential Commission, to review, on a daily and weekly basis, the entire plan of attention, training, support and logistics of the sports and athletes who are heading to the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.
The People’s Power Minister for Youth and Sports, Pedro Infante, is part of the commission together with the People’s Power Minister for Economy and Finance, Simón Zerpa, and the head of the People’s Power Ministry of the Office of the Presidency and Management Follow-up of Government, Jorge Márquez.
The Presidential Commission estimates to diagnose and know everything necessary to have the resources, equipment and training for the Olympic athletes as fundamental requirements, in order to improve performance and obtain a historic participation in Tokyo 2020.
Minister Pedro Infante arrived in Beijing, China, to undertake an intense agenda where, among other topics, he presented a proposed calendar of cooperation and exchange in sports with the General Administration of Sport of China, following instructions from President Nicolás Maduro, to Raise the level and preparation of Venezuelan athletes.
Planning, sports training, methodology, sports infrastructure and business management are part of the areas where the nation is working with other countries within the framework of the comprehensive care plan for Olympic athletes.
Infante offered a balance of the meeting he held with the Director of the General Sports Administration of China, GouZhongwen, and the Venezuelan aspirations of this cooperation around “planning, sports training, the topic of sports infrastructure and the sport business management in China”.
He explained that the fight, judo, karate, boxing, taekwondo, fencing, weightlifting and athletics are cutting-edge disciplines in Venezuela that are strongly projected for Tokyo 2020.
Among the Venezuelan proposals with China, there is the updating of bilateral sports agreement between the two countries, which dates from 2008, to promote the training of Venezuelan athletes.
Within the framework of this agreement, the Minister said: “We are already thinking, first of all, of an acquisition of sports equipment, second, the issue of textiles for our national teams; third, what has to do with sending a group of professionals to China to train in different areas of knowledge; and fourth, install from January 2020 several preparation bases for Venezuelan athletes who are on the Tokyo 2020 route”.
