Foreign Minister Arreaza meets in Rome with elected director of FAO

An important meeting was held Tuesday in Rome by the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, with the elected director of the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture (FAO), Qu Dongyu.

During the meeting, which took place within the framework of the 41st FAO Conference, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations told the director the commitment of the Government of Venezuela to further deepen the cooperation with the agency, with the vision of guaranteeing food sovereignty in the Latin American country.

Prior to the meeting, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister took part in the high-level segment of the Conference, in whose speech he congratulated and wished the director the best successes and capacities to help the countries and contemplate with them the best solutions, as well as develop the potentialities of each region.

Qu Dongyu was elected on Sunday as the new general director of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, with 108 votes out of a total of 191, achieving the majority required in the first round.

FM Arreaza held talks on bilateral issues with Pietro Benassi, diplomatic advisor to the Prime Minister of Italy.
