Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza offers balance after meeting with High Commissioner of Human Rights Michelle Bachelet

The High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations (UN), Michelle Bachelet and the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, held a meeting where the Venezuelan diplomat explained the political, economic and social context that Venezuela is going through as a result of the illegal blockade imposed by the United States government. After finishing the meeting that lasted for more than two hours, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister gave statements from the headquarters of the Yellow House Antonio José de Sucre, in Caracas, to offer a balance of the meeting, where they also evaluated the agenda to be fulfilled by Michelle Bachelet during her stay in Venezuela, which will last until next Friday. It is expected that the UN High Commissioner will hold meetings with the sectoral Vice-presidents, ministers, representatives of the public powers and other institutions of the country, which will show the plans and advances of the policies implemented by the National Government for the respect, promotion and guarantee of human rights in Venezuela. “We have shared with Michelle Bachelet the model of social protection, guarantee of human rights that we have been developing in Venezuela for 20 years. The Constitution was the first great step for us to be able to put together, design and execution of a human rights protection system that goes much further and includes, of course, civil, political, social and cultural rights”, said the FM. Minister Arreaza assured that the financial, commercial and oil blockade imposed by the dominant elites in the United States hinders the advance of the Venezuelan social protection model that is based on an anti-neoliberal and anti-private scheme placing “the human being, the family, man , the woman, all the Venezuelan citizens who are the fundamental subjects of the social and human rights in Venezuela”. Likewise, Foreign Minister Arreaza indicated that he expects the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to constructively suggest, recommend and guide the mechanisms to improve, guarantee and preserve the human rights of Venezuelans. “We examine the challenges that Venezuela has in terms of Human Rights, this is another example of how we have been strengthening the cooperation system at a time when unilateralism is threatening through this blockade and political aggression against the human rights of Venezuelans, multilateralism and the United Nations arises as the expression to support the peoples who are attacked”, said the Minister.
