Venezuela undertakes reciprocal actions before the closure of the Embassy of Canada in Caracas

On Saturday, the Venezuelan government reported that it will temporarily cease to serve in the consulates of Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal before the decision of the Canadian government to close its Embassy in Caracas. This was announced by the Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, through his Twitter account @jaarreza. In a statement, the National Government denounced that far from being an administrative matter, the decision to close the Canadian Embassy in Caracas is a political action that reflects the continued hostility of its government towards Venezuela, in subordination to the aggression of the administration of Donald Trump against the Venezuelan people and their democratic institutions. In that sense, the Venezuelan authorities will maintain their firm decisions, until the Canadian government recovers diplomatic synderesis and respect for international law. It is worth noting that these actions by Canada do not surprise the Venezuelan government, since on different occasions they have expressed their support for the financial blockade imposed by Washington against Venezuela and its interventionist policies. In previous days the Chancellor of Canada, Chrystia Freeland, announced that she would be evaluating the status of Venezuelan diplomats in Canada and will ask for the return of her own, adding that her government will not renew diplomatic visas. Canada is one of the countries that aligns itself with the guidelines of the US government, supporting the coup actions of the self-proclaimed Juan Guaidó. In presidential elections of May 20 in Venezuela, Canada prohibited the installation of polling stations in Venezuelan diplomatic missions in that country, sabotaging the right to vote to more than six thousand Venezuelans.
