Local governments in Latin America demand an immediate end to the US blockade of Venezuela

The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela received on Friday the full support of representatives of more than a hundred regional and local governments of the region, who gathered in Caracas on the occasion of the “Latin American Meeting of Local Governments and Participatory Democracy”. In the “Declaration of solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution”, adopted at the meeting, the international delegates unequivocally recognize the legitimacy of President Nicolás Maduro and advocate respect for non-interference and non-intervention in the internal affairs of countries, for the right to peace and respect for the will of dialogue of political actors, having the means and mechanisms attached to the Constitution and in the framework of international law. The regional leaders denounce in the document that the unilateral coercive measures and the economic blockade imposed against the population of Venezuela, “constitute a massive violation of their human rights”. Consequently, they demand the immediate cessation of the economic blockade executed by the government of the United States and “the satellite countries subject to their interests”. Venezuela: epicenter of the anti-imperialist struggle The regional and local governments recognize Venezuela as the epicenter of the anti-imperialist struggle and denounce that the oil country is threatened and under siege, for risking to propose an inclusive social model of sovereignty and self-determination. “A model that is built from local spaces and that highlights the dignity of a people that has decided to be free and independent in union with the peoples of the continent and the world”, the Declaration adds. Latin American Meeting of Local Governments and Participatory Democracy.

05 to June 9, 2019, Caracas, Venezuela.

Declaration of solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution

We, representatives of regional and local governments democratically elected and elected by our peoples, present at the “Latin American Meeting of Local Governments and Participatory Democracy”, held in the Bolivarian Libertador Municipality, in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, from May 5 to June 9, 2019, we, more than 100 local authorities from 20 countries in Latin America participated  and had the opportunity to exchange experiences, knowledge and proposals around participatory and protagonist democracy. We note that Venezuela in its democratic model, highlights the processes of empowerment of the organized people with local, regional and national impact on the planning, execution and control of public policies, through multiple and very diverse grassroots organizations of grassroots power, in communal councils and communes. Today Venezuela as part of the Latin American and Caribbean region is threatened and under siege, for risking to propose an inclusive social model of sovereignty and self-determination, a model that is built from local spaces and that highlights the dignity of a people that has decided be free and independent in union with the peoples of the continent and the world. From Venezuela, epicenter of the anti-imperialist struggle, we declare: 1. The recognition of the legitimacy of the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela, led by the democratically elected constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro Moros. 2. Respect for non-interference and non-intervention in the internal affairs of countries, the right to peace and respect for the will of dialogue of political actors, having the means and mechanisms attached to the Constitution and in the framework of international law. 3. The unilateral coercive measures and the economic blockade imposed against the population of Venezuela constitute a massive violation of their human rights and the intentional application of suffering that threatens their life, health and integrity and to eliminate the alternative represented by the Bolivarian project for the peoples of the world. 4. The demand for an immediate end to the economic blockade executed by the government of the United States and the satellite countries subject to their interests, for a plan to overthrow the rule of law and the extraction of natural resources and assets. 5. We recognize the great advances in attention to the vulnerable populations, expressed from the creation of the social missions guaranteeing the right to housing, health, free education, literacy, right to land to the peasants. 6. We denounce the communication fence that is raised against Venezuela, which has prevented transparently transmitting the reality of the social situation in Venezuela and also in the rest of the world. Report the campaign of media manipulation that has distorted the truth and conditioned the opinion and social behavior. 7. We recognize the solidary nature of its legitimate government and of the Venezuelan people who, historically, has sheltered millions of Latin American, Caribbean and migrants from the rest of the world, and we proclaim the unity of Our Great Homeland. 8. Finally, we call on the governments of the world and especially the continent of Latin America and the Caribbean, to defend the principles of popular sovereignty and self-determination, peace, participatory democracy, the construction of a multicentric and pluripolar world. In Caracas, Venezuela, June 7, 2019
