Presidents Putin and Xi Jinping advocate dialogue in Venezuela and reject military option
On Wednesday, the presidents of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, issued a joint statement urging political dialogue in Venezuela to resolve conflicts.
The leaders of both powers also rejected a possible military intervention in order to overthrow the legitimate government of the president, Nicolás Maduro Moros.
Through a document issued at the end of a round of negotiations held in the Kremlin, among the top representatives of Russia and China, all parties involved in the Venezuelan conflict were called to “support a peaceful solution to the problems in the country”.
“We follow closely the development of events in Venezuela and call on all parties to comply with the Charter of the United Nations (UN), as well as the rules of international law and relations between States”, the document added.
Presidents Putin and Xi Jinping also expressed their intention to keep holding consultations on Latin America and strengthen contacts and interaction to deepen relations with the countries of the region.
