ALBA-TCP stands as a core of resistance to US policies
The Republic of Cuba hosted on Tuesday the XVIII Meeting of the Political Council of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Treaty of Commerce of the Peoples (ALBA-TCP), during which the foreign ministers and delegates of the member countries of the organization analyzed, among other issues of common interest, the threats to regional peace and security.
In his installation speech, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez warned about the US government’s pretensions to reestablish the application of the old Monroe Doctrine and return to the McCarthyism era.
“Faced with these attempts, our América rises up, the one dreamed up by Bolívar and Martí; and the proclamation of Latin America as a Zone of Peace, its platform for defending the principles of international law and sovereign equality, its decisive decision against war and violence”, he emphasized.
In this important forum of regional political agreement, the Cuban diplomat rejected the threats of the use of military force from the United States to Venezuela which constitute the most serious danger to regional peace and security.
“We rejected since the meeting of the ALBA-TCP Political Council all kinds of intervention in Venezuela, determined to defend the peace and stability of the region in the face of the return of US military interventionism and its pretention that the States of our America kill each other”, said Foreign Minister Rodriguez.
In this same discursive line, he condemned the hostile policies and actions orchestrated by the United States against Venezuela and the government of President Nicolás Maduro. In this regard, he alluded to the resurgence of economic sanctions, the attempted assassination against the Venezuelan head of State on August 4, 2018, the attack on the National Electric System (SEN), the attempted coup of the past 30 of April and the illegal occupation of the Venezuelan Embassy in the US capital.
The Cuban foreign minister called, given the “failures of the strategy” of Washington against Caracas, to unite wills to denounce the threats against the Bolivarian Republic and defend the peace of the region.
“They will not reduce our commitment to defend our right to self-determination, nor will they undermine the will to express all the solidarity of ALBA-TCP with the Venezuelan brotherhood, with its civic-military union, with its legitimate government, and with the constitutional president Nicolás Maduro”, he said.
On the contrary, he expressed the full support of ALBA-TCP for any initiative for dialogue leading to a peaceful solution to the political controversy in Venezuela, based on the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
Sao Paulo Forum will be held in Caracas
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba also urged the contribution of the organism to the realization of the XXV Edition of the Forum of Sao Paulo between July 25 and 28 in the capital of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Caracas.
“We will act together to achieve the broadest participation of Caribbean political forces and the invitation and presence of government and political leaders of our peoples and other regions of the planet”, he added.
