Russia exhorts radical Venezuelan opposition to stop violence
This Tuesday, through a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Russian Federation called on the Venezuelan opposition to resolve their political disagreements with the national government in a peaceful manner and not through violent methods of confrontation such as be instiging for conflicts, and provoking riots.
Posture offered in relation to the events of violence and coups promoted by the self-proclaimed president, Juan Guaidó, and the far-right leader, Leopoldo López, who was illegally released by a small number of insurgents while he was serving conviction for crimes that include public incitement and association to commit crimes due to violent protests in 2014.
Through the statement, Russia said that the solution to the problems faced by Venezuela must follow a negotiation without preconditions, “any action must be taken exclusively within the legal framework, in strict accordance with the Constitution and without destructive external interference”, he stressed.
He also urged members of the international community, including Venezuela’s closest neighbors, to confirm their fidelity to the Charter of the United Nations (UN), and to reaffirm compliance with the norms and principles framed in international law in order to guarantee Venezuela’s return to sustainable and progressive development through dialogue between all the political forces responsible for the country.
The statement also refers to the performance of the media, and urges them to make an objective coverage of the events that are unfolding in the South American country since they must not multiply the false information, becoming an obedient tool of the biased political forces that look for an escalation of tension in Venezuela.
