Foreign Minister Arreaza: Venezuela and Syria have a common enemy and with the same interests

This Thursday, from Damascus, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, explained during a press conference with his counterpart from the Syrian Arab Republic, Walid Al-Mualem, that Venezuela and Syria have a common enemy and with the same interests, such as seizing the riches of oil, among other resources coveted by US imperialism. During his speech, Foreign Minister Al-Mualem referred to the firmness of his people and their armed forces that have remained victorious over these eight years. “Our firmness is an example to be followed for all countries that face US hegemony”. For his part, FM Arreaza expressed his feelings about this new visit to Syria, after his last experience nine years ago, when he accompanied the commander Hugo Chávez and his Foreign Minister, Nicolás Maduro. On that occasion, “both countries signed dozens of cooperation agreements, but then came the war against Syria. The disease and the physical loss of Commander Chávez also followed by the economic, political and media war against Venezuela”, he said. Foreign Minister Arreaza pointed out that there are similarities between the process that Syria is experiencing and the one that Venezuela is now facing. “This very day, in a previous meeting, President Al-Asaad described the early days of the war against Syria, we could identify similarities with what we are currently living in Venezuela, the same enemy but it is also the same people resisting imperialism”. Likewise, Foreign Minister Arreaza warned that “the United States wants to attack Venezuela and seize its riches and resources. The experience in Syria gives us lessons and ideas to overcome and win this war”. Following, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister stressed that “within the UN has emerged a group to defend the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law, and prevent an aggression against Venezuela and any country in the world”. He also pointed out that “we hope that the action of countries committed to respecting International Law and the Charter of the United Nations will produce a change in US foreign policy”. Minister Arreaza concluded by saying that “the only way to defeat imperialism, which is unilateral, arbitrary, rude and selfish, is through multilateralism, with the values of peace and respect for the sovereignty of peoples”.
