Foreign Minister Arreaza receives Technical Mission sent by UN High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet

This Monday, through his Twitter account, @jaarreaza, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza announced that he held a high-level meeting with the team of the Technical Mission of the Office of the High Commissioner of the United Nations for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet.

This delegation is made up of Birgit Gerstensberg, representative for South America of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; Sara Nuero, official of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights; Carlos de la Torre, officer in charge of the Venezuela desk of the Oaxaca section, and José María Aranaz, head of the Americas division, Europe and Central Asia of the Oaxaca. Also present was Peter Grohmann, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Venezuela and Venezuelan Human Rights Commissioner Larry Davoe.

It should be noted that this visit by the technical team arose in response to the invitation made by the Head of State Nicolás Maduro Moros, who sent a letter to the UN High Commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, on November 26, 2018, with the objective of inviting her to Venezuela so that she can verify the reality of the country.

For his part, FM Arreaza said that “the institutions of the Bolivarian Government and the Public Powers will receive in the coming days the members of this technical mission of @UNHumanRights, due to the visit to Venezuela of the UN High Commissioner for the human rights”.

It is expected that the UN Technical Mission will meet with authorities and leaders of different political sectors to present a report to the UN High Commissioner that evidences the real socio-political situation in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
