UN High Commissioner for Human Rights rejects application of coercive measures and military interventions

On Monday morning, the Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the United Nations Organization, Samuel Moncada, asked during an interactive dialogue of the member states of the UN with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, when will the unilateral coercive measures that many countries illegally apply to others in contravention of the Charter of the United Nations, be publicly condemned.

Before the present States, the High Commissioner for Human Rights responded that “all States must refrain from applying any unilateral coercive measures that have negative effects on Human Rights, particularly on the most vulnerable. Even in carefully targeted measures, in cases of massive violations of human rights, should not be imposed longer than necessary, should be proportionate and should be placed under the supervision of independent experts or the monitoring team to study the impacts they have “. Also, at the request of venezuelan Ambassador, Samuel Moncada, to condemn the illegal use of military force by some countries against others, the UN High Commissioner, Michelle Bachelet, reiterated that there should be no military interventions for any reason and in any region. Before those present, Bachelet said she will keep working hand in hand with the member states to consolidate a constructive dialogue and thus ensure that human rights are universal and indivisible, but also transparent and objective.
