Foreign Ministry inaugurates exhibition in honor of the Saharawi people

As part of the policy of integration of the peoples that the Government of Venezuela executes to strengthen the political-cultural exchange, on Monday the ambassador of Saharawi in Venezuela, Mohamed Salem Daha, inaugurated an exhibition that extols the historical struggle and cultural identity of the people of the Western Sahara that was invaded by the Kingdom of Morocco in 1975.

The inauguration of the exhibition that took place at the headquarters of the People’s Power Ministry for Foreign Relations and that will be available until November, was attended by Cesar Trompiz, rector of the Bolivarian University of Venezuela (UBV); the ambassador of Cuba in Venezuela, Rogelio Polanco and part of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country.

Also present was the Association of Friendship and Solidarity with the Saharawi People, MPPRE workers and students who are part of the educational exchange subscribed between Venezuela and the Saharawi Republic.

On behalf of the Foreign Ministry, the Director of the Office of the Vice-minister for Africa, Carlos Feo, was in charge of welcoming the attendees who knew the reality of the Saharawi people who are recognized as Republic only by the governments that integrate the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries (NAM).

Ambassador Salem Daha pointed out that the Saharawi people, who were invaded by Morocco in conjunction with the colonialist forces of Spain, continue to suffer the consequences of the actions exercised by the occupying powers that compels the Saharawi people, living in the occupied areas, to a forced transfer.

The people of Western Sahara also suffer the excesses of an interventionist policy that confiscates their property, destroys the cultural heritage, executes arbitrary arrests, forced disappearances and violation of fundamental rights.

In this regard, the diplomat thanked the unconditional support of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela for the population of Western Sahara. He also asked the sisterly peoples to redouble their efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict that is going on.

“We ask our brothers to redouble their efforts to solve this conflict, we also call upon the United Nations to direct a just and true solution for the Saharawi people to decide on their own structure of government through a referendum”, he said.

For his part, the rector of the UBV, Cesar Trompiz, highlighted the relevance of the educational exchange program that both nations signed, which in his opinion, constitutes a show of support and solidarity of the Caribbean nation to promote the development of the people, especially of the Saharawi youth.

These cultural exchange activities carried out by the venezuelan Foreign Ministry are aimed at strengthening the bonds of brotherhood, friendship and solidarity among the peoples, through direct links with representatives of foreign diplomatic missions in Venezuela.
