Foreign Minister Arreaza: Colombia instrumentalizes the figure of the refuge and international conventions to protect Julio Borges

The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, questioned the resolution signed Thursday by his Colombian counterpart, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, by means of which the refugee status in the New Granada country is granted to the ex-deputy, Julio Borges, directly linked with the attempted assassination against President Nicolás Maduro.

“The government of Colombia instrumentalizes the figure of the refuge and the international conventions to protect Julio Borges, imputed as the intellectual author of the attempted assassination on August 4 and involved in all the stages of the coup continued since 2002”, denounced the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations through hisTwitter account @jaarreaza, where he disseminated the Official Communiqué of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in this regard. The text calls the attention of the international community to this fact, which confirms the colombian government’s pattern of protection for venezuelan citizens who seriously undermine democracy and the lives of venezuelan presidents. “Under the same format of impunity that today they apply with Julio Borges, since 2002, the citizen Pedro Carmona Estanga, author and main protagonist of the coup d’état in Venezuela, which had among its purposes the assassination of President Hugo Chávez and the members of his government team, is protected by the colombian authorities”, the document added.
