Installed IV plenary of the Forum of Citizen Participation of Unasur

On Monday the installation of the IV plenary of the Forum of Citizen Participation of Unasur was held, an event organized by the People’s Power Ministry for the Communes and the People’s Power Ministry  for Foreign Relations.

This activity that took place in the spaces of the Simón Rodríguez National Training Center located in Los Teques, brought together the members of the social movements of the country who, through work groups, discussed the approaches and strategies to be used to face the imperial onslaught against Venezuela.

In his speech the Vice-minister for International Communication of the Foreign Ministry, William Castillo, said that the defense of regional integration blocks such as UNASUR is an essential task for the Bolivarian Revolution.

“There is a need to defend Unasur, it is an essential task because it is part of the political, social and ideological legacy that the commander Hugo Chávez promoted”, Castillo said.

The vice-minister added that the imperial powers intend to destroy the Bolivarian Revolution by weakening the integration blocks in order to transgress the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples. In this regard, Castillo stressed that citizen participation should be critical, constructive and that it should promote and support spaces for debate.

“Political action is expressed in work plans. We are committed to strengthening the peoples who are fighting against imperial hegemony”, he said.

For his part, the ambassador of Venezuela to UNASUR, Elvis Urbina, said that the objective of the fourth plenary is to overcome the challenges of the previous periods and thus strategically empower social organizations to defend sovereignty.

“We must strengthen the mechanisms for the defense of sovereignty. The effort must be collective and integrated among social movements”, he said.

For Tuesday and Wednesday, it is planned to continue the itinerary of activities that includes forums, lectures and working groups in which social movements and government spokespersons will participate.
